Using the EldonCard you can in less than 2 minutes determine the presence or absence of the blood group antigens A, B, and Rhesus D. Depending on the circumstances the medical professional will apply onto the EldonCard whole blood (Either stabilised venous blood or capillary blood), or will apply
re-suspended washed red cells. Because of the Control Field present upon most EldonCards whole blood can be used, and centrifugation and washing of red cells is not needed.
The possibility of using whole blood is of particular importance in doctor’s office, in the hands of the midwife, or in small clinics (Birth clinics), which do not posses equipment for automatic blood
group determination.
